Minutes of the meeting (4.9.2021)
A One-day international webinar was organized on 4th of September 2021 at 5 PM by Ryan Publishers on the topic,” Empowering Women Through Domestic Violence Experiences” presented by the resource person, Dr.R.Vasanthi.
Dr. R. Vasanthi is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Sociology, P.M.T.College, Usilampatti, Madurai District. Our resource person, a highly qualified academician, She obtained her PhD from Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. Her areas of specialization include marginalized groups, Environmental Sociology, Gender Studies, and Sociology of Politics. Dr. R. Vasanthi has also taken training on the “Domestic Violence Act, 2005” and the “Implementation of Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005”. She has served as RRC Programme Officer and also conducted various training and workshops for RRC and YRC volunteers, such as “Curriculum Training” , “Plastic Awareness Campaign on “Hazardous Effects and Alternatives to Plastics” and „Celebrating Life”. She has also published various national and international papers and has authored a book entitled “Dalit Women in Politics”. Dr. R. Vasanthi has served as a Rapporteur at an ICSSR sponsored national seminar, Periyar University, Salem, and she is also a member of the Indian Academic Researchers Association. The resource person exhibits a keen level of interest in volunteering for social and humanitarian causes.
The session started with the resource person explaining about the conceptual clarification of domestic violence. She went on to emphasize the overview of PWDVA (The Protection Of Women From Domestic Violence Act, 2005), Dr.R.Vasanthi pinpointed on how to overcome abuse . Acts and Laws according to domestic violence were also highlighted to the participants. The resource person also pointed out two case studies of domestic violence. Finally, the session came to a close with the resource person encouraging women to empower themselves.
