Digital electronics is essential to understanding the design and working of a wide range of applications such as consumer/industrial electronics, communication systems, recording devices, computers, security and military equipment. It is a fast-expanding field with scope for significant development. This book discusses the basics of designing circuits, operational aspects and potential applications.

This book is divided into six chapters. The first chapter deal with the number systems that can be used the represent data binary codes used for representing numeric and alphanumeric data which conversion from one number system to another system and similarly conversion from one code to another is discussed. Binary arithmetic, covering different methods of performing arithmetic operations on binary numbers is discussed.

Chapter II covered various types of logic gates. Boolean algebra with theorems (Demorgan’s and Duality) and minimization techniques provide exhaustive coverage Karnaugh’s map with solved examples.

Chapter III deals with the most basic building block of combinational circuits which include various types of adders and subtractors such as half and full adders, half and full subtractors and Binary adder/subtractor. This is followed by a detailed account of the multiplexer, demultiplexer, encoder and decoder.

Chapter IV covered the sequential logic circuits. The discussion begins with the most fundamental building block of sequential logic, that is, flip-flop. Different types of flip-flops are covered with logic diagrams and fundamental operations with their truth tables. Counters and Registers are very important in sequential logic circuits. Different types of counters and shift registers have been covered in detail.

Chapter V deal with the data conversion circuits including digital to analog and analog to digital converters. Different types of digital to analog and analog to digital converters include the basic operation, characteristic parameters and applications.

The last chapter covered memory devices. Different types of memory such as RAM, ROM, simple programmable logic devices (PLA) and field-programmable gate array (FPGA)
